The limitation on number of characters depends on the MySQL configuration; by default full-text search has a minimum of 4 characters. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/fulltext-fine-tuning.html

        1. Where is the "official" main branch of Evo?

        2. Who oversees testing of proposed modifications?

        3. Who approves updates to the main branch?

Can someone either provide a link to existing documentation, or provide documentation on exactly how one can participate in the development process?

I've done a fork on github: https://github.com/sjstoelting/evolution, do your own fork and I'll integrate that changes in this branch.

My development branch for the new version is https://github.com/sjstoelting/evolution/tree/1.1.dev
The branch has an information page with some rules and some targets. Please should be checked if all of you out here find this acceptable.

I offer to integrate all changes to that main branch. In the end a MODX team member has to integrate our changes into the MODX sources.

But I think we do need some more, for example a testing environment, regularly web meetings for example with hangout.

And there should be one person as the main project manager. I'm not talking about a programmer, someone, who is willing to be a real project manager.
Then we need a plan which way we will go and delegate the jobs, meaning who does what.

            Sorry... got the wrong link.

We also need a better point for communication and collaboration than this single forum thread. Does anybody have a site already suitable?

Translations also needed. While dmi3yy's custom version has a lot of improvements, the Russian comments and documentation make it pretty hard to work with. Google Translate frequently doesn't make a lot of sense. [ed. note: sottwell last edited this post 14 years, 6 months ago.]

I've done the fork before 1.0.6 was out and took branched the than available branches into the 1.1.dev branch. As I have already started with the database part, I have not updated the the version to 1.0.6 by now. But I did a start for me because I want a change, not only a discussion.

The other way is, as already mentioned, doing pull requests on the original evo source on github. Then a MODX team member is needed to take control of the changes.

I've got a client who owes me; as soon as they pay up I'll be able to get a year or two of a VPS to set up a testbed and forum site if anybody thinks this would be helpful.

Ok. First bug in sjstoelting-evolution-v1.0.5-3-g62edaed version.

In the installer, the two .sql files need to be edited to read "ENGINE=MyISAM" instead of "Type=MyISAM". The ENGINE option will work in older versions of MySQL as well as TYPE, but the TYPE option won't work in newer versions.

Done, the branch 1.1.dev is equal to Evo 1.0.6.
