If you also develop your site locally on Windows with WAMP you have to realize that the solution does not include sending email. As soon as you test a script that contains the mail () function you fall hopelessly in error.

Something like this message : Failed to connect to mailserver at "localhost" port 25, verify your "SMTP" and "smtp_port" setting in php.ini or use ini_set() in ........

But it is quite possible to send mails locally using Wamp (without alter any setting in MODx) with Fake Sendmail. More info and download at http://glob.com.au/sendmail/

    Cheers

With Revo it's very easy to set the configuration to use SMTP and use your external email. I use my sottwell.com email server; you can also use a gmail account as an external SMTP server.

With Evo it's a bit more awkward; the best way is to edit the manager/includes/controls/class.phpmailer.php file to make it use SMTP by default. Unless you are using a third-party snippet that doesn't use the phpmailer class file, all your mail functions will work through the SMTP server you specify in the phpmailer class file.

        Hi Susan
Yes I know that, but for those who don't want to deal with SMTP or don't want to set their MODx configuration to use SMTP it is just useful to know that other solutions are available... As I said in my title it's just a tip...
In other hand, I have multiple installs of Revo on my PC and with this solution I don't have to care about the email configuration each time I install a new one... ^_^
        Cheers
