I am working on a new client's website. The site was established already when they came to me. Long story short their server crashed. Luckily I had a fresh backup of their database and webfiles.

I uploaded the webfiles, imported the database and the only thing that shows is the homepage.

I am new to MODX and am not familiar with the file structure or database parameters. I have been cruising the forums for hours now with no progress to show. I have the database settings the same.

The site is on an Apache server running mysql: 5.0.77, php: 5.2.6, and I'm not sure what version of MODX, it was originally installed about a year ago if that helps.

I'm not clear whether you've got MODX reinstalled or not, if you've got a homepage it suggests you have perhaps? If so go to the managers page and it should tell you which MODX system you are running.

If MODX isn't installed then if your database contains a table called something like modx_namespaces then you need to upload Rev, or if not then Evo. When you've uploaded the CMS then do an update not a new install. Obviously you'll need the manager login details.

If you can provide further details I'm sure someone can help.

I can't navigate to anything after the homepage, DomainName.com/manager shows a 500 error. Although I can navigate to files, DomainName.com/assets/files/form.pdf. My database does have a table modx_namespaces.

Since I'm not familiar with MODX I'm not sure what details I can provide to get further assistance. If there are specific questions, please ask. I'll upload Rev and see what I can see.

One other bit of info, when I try to use the navigation to go to a subpage I get a 404 error. I think I am just not connecting to the database, the page information is in the database. I changed the core>config>config.inc.php to reflect the password change. Would there be something site_id or site_sessionname? [ed. note: kevcope last edited this post 14 years, 7 months ago.]

I was hoping there might be some more ideas on things to try. I uploaded Rev and the situation didn't change. I'm fairly sure it is a database connection in the config file. Would there be something site_id or site_sessionname that would make the site connect to the database?

If you are seeing the home page, you're connected to the DB, so that's not it (unless someone has left an index.html file in the root with an old static copy of the home page).

The first thing to try is manually deleting the files in the core/cache directory.

Second, did you copy the backup files in using FTP? It's fairly common for files to get corrupted or missed when you're transferring that many. It's better to .zip them up, transfer the .zip file, and un-zip them on the server (see the upgrade link below).

Since you found the core/config/config.inc.php file, you're definitely using MODX Revolution, but who knows which version.

Normally, I'd suggest re-running Setup, but you'd need to upload the correct version of the setup folder and we don't know what exact version you're running.

In the unlikely event that the setup directory existed in your backup and is there, try:

            yoursite.com/setup

Don't proceed unless the "Upgrade" box is checked.

If none of that works, I don't usually recommend upgrading a broken site, but in your case it might make sense. There are some steps to do it here: http://bobsguides.com/modx-upgrade-faq.html

                Thank you Bob Ray ,

I manually deleted the files in the core/cache directory. Then its works fine.

                Thank You.

                Regards

                  Thanks BobRay,

First I tried just uploading the the backup files zipped as you suggested. I can now get to the manager and it shows the version, MODX Revolution 2.1.3-pl (traditional).

But none of the content in the manager is showing. The homepage is complete but still getting 404 errors with the subpages.

I tried a clean install of the MODX version mentioned about with the same results. Any more ideas?

Is there an .htaccess file in the MODX root directory?

What's the setting of the "use Friendly URLs" System Setting? (Go to System -> System Settings and put 'friendly' in the search box at the upper right).

All the access files are ht.access. When I go to System -> System Settings there is a message "Processor not found. getlist"
