So this is probably the 6th or 8th site I've done with ModX ... and up until now things have gone great. I was working on the site with a temporary domain name and switched the site to being live ... when I did, the site worked in Firefox but didn't work in IE or Safari. It would always bring me back to the home page ... but the access logs said I was going to the correct pages and even the friendly URLs showed that I was supposed to be on the page I had clicked on.

I checked Friendly URLs and all the settings seemed right ... and there was nothing in the ModX error log nor in the Apache error log.

What am I missing ... this is the first time this kind of problem has happened and it's driving me nuts.

Got a link to the site? Is your <base href=""> tag correct?
It sounds like you are getting 404s and the site is showing the home page as the error page. But can't really help more without seeing your markup...

        http://bob.psd4.psdservices.com/ is the temporary URL.

I don't have base href set (I don't believe, certainly not in the site settings ... and I don't think in the template anywhere)

The "live site" URL is www.dermalojik.com but I switched back to a static version of the site so there would be something functioning on the domain.

The psdservices site is returning 404s for all your internal pages. The base tag is useful but I think the problem could be in your .htaccess file. At least your friendly urls are not working correctly.

What have you got in there?

Also, are all your pages set to 'published'? You might be logged in on Firefox and able to see those pages, but not in IE.

As far as I know it's just the generic file provided by ModX ... most of it is commented out but it has RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / and then 2 RewriteCond statements and a RewriteRule

My server does have html files parsed for PHP content but that hasn't given me a problem with any other sites in the past ... but could that be it?

Well ... that seems to have been it. I thought I had published the pages but I guess with the new interface I had done it wrong and they weren't published.

It's too bad that the site was showing up as working in Firefox ... easier for these kinds of problems to show up I guess.

A logged-in Manager user can see unpublished pages. So you were logged in with Firefox but not IE, or Safari, I would presume.

I guess. I had closed my browser and done other things so I wasn't aware I was still considered logged in ... but I guess I must have been.

That will teach me ... as I recall, previous versions didn't respond in that way ... so a good lesson to understand ... just difficult to learn it at a clients expense.
