PHP 5.3 / Upgrade question

We're upgrading PHP to 5.3 soon. We still have some old Evo installations running (oldest one being 0.9.5), and when I tried to switch briefly to PHP 5.3., I got several fatal errors (function split() is deprecated etc.).

Now my question: We can't upgrade all of those at once. We try to prioritize which ones are the ost urgent to upgrade to 1.0.5 (or 1.0.6., if this really comes out in the next couple days)

Which old versions would be affected by a switch to PHP 5.3? When did Evo start to rewrite all those deprecated functions to comply with PHP 5.3? With v. 1.0 ?

Many of those errors aren't caused by MODx itself but by Wayfinder or other add-ons.

I don't care about add-ons (for now). The fatal error I get for a 0.9.6.1 site is:

Clearly, manager/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php belongs to core, not an add-on. Updating single snippets / modules / plugins is a breeze, compared to upgrading MODX itself.

In code years, version 0.9.6 is definitely a senior citizen.

It's not surprising that it's not completely compatible with PHP 5.3.

Well, I upgraded 6 sites yesterday that were pre 1.0, and included the latest security patch that was reported a couple of days ago. I should be fine now for the next couple of years
