I'm blocked from content manager but not from ModX.com

Hi there, not very good at this stuff and managed to get blocked from the content manager of my site. There was no forgot login option when I tried to log in my content manager so went to Modx.com and changed my password there. So I can login here but when I try to login to conent manager I get incorrect password and then blocked again.

By way of info I am using Mac os x lion and trying to login using Firefox 8.0.1 browser.
Not sure of the Modx version but it was set up in 2005 and as far as I am aware has not been changed since.

Any help gratefully received.

The MODX manager and modx.com aren't in any way connected.

You're likely only blocked for 60 minutes, at least that's the default time out in Revo (I'm assuming Evo is similar but I don't use it so I don't know). If you have access to the database, you should be able to change that setting to 0 which would stop you from being locked out at least. Also, if you've got database access, you should be able to change your password in the database as well.

Ok understood thanks I have managed to get back in by using the original password as you say I didn't change it for content manager.

On a different note, now I am back in I launch site and click on Quick Edit / Content and it takes me to the login page again. After this I go through launch site / Quick edit / content but this time I don't get the usual window with icons at the top to add photo , change font etc, all I get is a screen of code.

I used to use Netscape Navigator 9 as this worked fine but since installing osx lion navigator will not run. The paragraph above is all that happens in Safari, Firefox and chrome.

Am I doing something wrong or is it this cursed lion?

Sounds like you think this CMS is like Wordpress.com vs Wordpress.org or something. Like Frog said not even close.

It's hard to tell what you are talking about with what you are seeing. Paste the code up you mention or we have no clue how to help.

What do you mean "lion navigator?" Netscape Navigator stopped support in like 2008. Why would you be using it instead of Safari or Firefox anyway?? Time for a hardware upgrade? I mean I guess some are still using DOS 6.0 somewhere, right?

Other than that it's still hard to tell what you are seeing or having a problem with in regards to Quick Edit. The less specific you are with posts here the less likely you are going to get a qualified response. I'd say "Clear Cache" and "Flush All Sessions" and see what happens, post your error message you are seeing if you want specific help on it, use a modern browser and stop being so cheap and buy a new computer every 3-5 years.

It can't be a very old computer if it is running Lion - it has to be a 64bit intel processor so some but not all Macs from 2006 will run it, so yeah it could be a 5 year old computer but still quite functional, and it could be younger!

I think you parsed that incorrectly he was saying that navigator will not run on Lion - which is because Navigator was written for PowerPC and the old OS code to accommodate PowerPC programs was removed from Lion.

However I have to say the OP is somewhat confused - to the point that is hard to understand what he asking. And I would agree that he should be running a modern browser on Lion (which I think he is) and not "cursing Lion"

Sometimes problems can come up if you are logged in to www.domain.com, but attempt to use domain.com (without the www). They are considered to be two different domains, so if you're logged in to one then you are not logged in to the other.

BTW, you can't change your password in the database in any obvious way since what's stored there is a hash value and you'd have to know the correct value. The only way to do it is to enter the hash of a known password or create a separate install of the same version of MODX, set the password, and copy the password and hash from that site's DB to the one where you're blocked.

Also, if you clear the blocked status in the DB, it won't take effect unless you also manually clear the cache by deleting the cache files.

As Frogabog says, you're only blocked for 60 minutes unless you've changed that value in the Manager.
