    Thanks Bob,
I tried removing the line, which had no effect.

Found the wiki on mod_security and tried adding SecFilterEngine to allow the manager to make changes. That started a whole cascade of 500 errors. It didn't matter what I put, even SecFilterEngine Off - still caused 500 errors. Removing all references to SecFilterEngine was the only way to regain access vis the manager.

That doesn't make any sense to me, but maybe helpful for you or someone else to diagnose what's going on.

    Thanks
    Rob

In revo 2.2 it is possible to edit css files from the manager
whistlemaker - I missed that feature, how do I do that?
      Simple.
Say you put your 'normal' css file in /assets/css/ directory. In the modx manager click on the Files tab in the left pane and navigate to the file and click on it - it will bring up in the right pane 'Edit File' which is a basic text editor.
And since your css is just a file on your web server you can also edit it with your favorite editor, or get to it with an ftp program.
Best of both worlds for me.
