I have a user in a group called "blogs and news" with access to a Press Release (PR) Archive folder which has child folders for individual years (2012, 2011, ...).
He is able to see all the folders and children, create a document (press release). However, when he tries to click on "publish" then hit save, the post won't publish. When he hits "preview" that's not working either.
As an admin super user I can do these actions fine.
I did notice that while the Archive folder did have permissions granted to the "blog and news" group, the child folders did not. Are permissions inherited? In any case, when I set the permissions for the 2012 and 2011 folder, my user could still not preview or publish.
I am running on MODx Revolution 2.0.7.
Anyone have any ideas?
If the resources are in a resource group that's attached to a user group, the policy in the ACL entry granting that access has to have the publish permission checked.
The user group's Context Access ACL entry policy also must have the "publish_document" permission checked.

Thanks Bob. I have an "Author" role assigned to a "Blog and News" resource group, and for some reason the "publish_document" was unticked as you suggest (user claims they could always publish before).
Hope that does the trick for him for publish / preview.
Thanks.
It's possible that a previous version of MODX didn't enforce that permission.
I'd suggest upgrading to a newer version (at least 2.1.5). Some earlier versions had trouble with cache corruption.
Be sure everyone who needs to preview has load, list, and view permissions.
