The tar file is corrupted for me and I can’t untar it.

The zip file is also get corrupted if I download directly to my site. I had to download to my pc then upload it to my host with the zip file then it would work.

It is time consuming to do download and upload for the 4MB file.

    Thanks

I have no trouble on CentOS or XP with either the zip or the tar file. Much more information is needed if you want any action on this one...I’ve heard this everytime we produce a package, and we’ve produced them every possible way imaginable. These were created on a CentOS box, and again, I have zero problems with extracting either package. Archive client and platform info is needed at minimum...

@chanh : did you receive these same lines than for modx-0.9.5.tar.gz ?
gzip: stdin: decompression OK, trailing garbage ignored
        tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

        So look to : http://www.gzip.org/#faq8

I am on Linux Redhat and here is what I got when I tried to untar with this command: tar zxvf modx.tar.gz

tar: This does not look like a tar archive
          tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

I got the similar problem with zip file too!

I think the real problem is I can’t do a wget to the direct download url so I tried to use lynx to download may the lynx download don’t get the right format.

The only way I can get a good file is download to my pc then upload it backup to my host then it is ok but it is a pain to do a double download and upload.

Would it be possible to put the download file at sourceforge.net?
I can easily do wget from sf.net to download the file.

          Just a suggestion!

          Thanks

@chanh -- ok, I’ve identified the problem with the download corruption, and am working to fix it as quickly as possible.

@chanh : perhaps you have miss my suggest. Do you try a:
              gunzip -q < modx-0.9.6.tar.gz | tar xvf -

and see if a error is report again...
I didn’t test the zip. I don’t touch proprietary format smiley

@chanh : sure you can make a wget direclty on the script.
Try by a simple clic on:
                  http://modxcms.com/assets/snippets/filedownload/download.php?path=YnVpbGRz&fileName=modx-0.9.6.tar.gz
Then apply the command on the file with the good md5sum.
                  For me:
                  9a012ef00712d508e9426b5485b3f837 modx-0.9.6.tar.gz

In the past, I have been able to download the official MODx releases with wget from the command line. It does not work on these 0.9.6 links.
I have tried several ways of downloading MODx 0.9.6 over my slow modem connection. Here’s what I think is happening: the download.php script times out, in a way that makes the browser think that it is finished downloading. This happens for me somewhere around the 1.7 Mb mark. Even after tricking the browsers into being able to resume the download, it looks like the download.php script is not capable of resuming transfers. So.. the modem user is stuck. I can’t get the file in one swoop because the download just stops after a certain amount of time.. and I can’t resume transfers. If I could use wget on this URL I would just do that from one of my hosting accounts, then do a regular http download to my computer.
Why does this download have to go through the download.php script? Can someone send me a direct link to a proper http or ftp download? I’m sure a lot of users are having this trouble, then thinking that the posted archive is corrupt.
                    Thanks

                      I resolved my 500 errors.

The tar file does not have the correct permissions for my server evidently. So a direct pull of the file and tar xzf or unzip (depending on which files) does not work under any circumstances.

The way I found around this was to explode the directory locally, remove all of the unnecessary Readme files in the root, (wish I could easily delete all the ones down below), ftp upload to the server (which will chmod the files correctly for your server), and finally make the chmod changes in assets, etc.

At that time I made a tar file of it which only needs owner ship changed (chown owner.owner). This tar file installs flawlessly on any site I want on the server.

I was also able to do upgrades using this "personalized" tar file.

Directly using wget (which I have locked down to root only on my server) to get the files and explode them will not work for our sites no matter what security mode the site is in. Even if I chmod -R 644 * from the root of the site does not seem to work, even though that is what ftp does with them. I am curious if chattr needs to be ran on the files. before they are tar’d on the original source server, or if there is something else being pulled in in the inodes. Haven’t had time to look at those, because I got it working this way.

                      I hope this helps someone.
