    Hello everybody,
I'm installing Modx Revolution 2.20 for the very first time.
    Here is my configuration:
    Windows 2008
    PHP 5.3
    MySQL 5.5
    IIS 7.5

I downloaded the basic package and unzipped it to the web site root.
I started the setup process that seemed to work fine, except for:
    - Connection character set & collation dropdown list were empty. The database connection test worked though.
    - It was not able to create the database, even if I logged in as mysql root user. Anyway I manually created the database and the rest of the process seemed to work fine. It created all the tables, and so on.

I created the administrator user and password.

All the checks of the information summary were ok and I clicked on "install"

I had to manually specify the path for the core directory. Default /core/ didn't work, so I typed in d:/web/mydomain/core
(verified on the config.inc.php file and it replaced the default path with the one I typed)

I got a warning about the folders /assets and /assets/components not been created.

Then I clicked on the Login button expecting to go to the manager.

After that I get a 500 internal server error.
If I go to the root url I get a blank page but no error.
The setup path is still reachable even if I checked to delete it.

In the \core\cache\logs path I have an error.log file that says:
(ERROR @ /manager/index.php) Could not find action file at: /manager/controllers/default/security/login

I tried to google this but I found nothing.

All the directories of the website are writable (and to be even more sure I tried to give everyone and guests full control but nothing changed)

I tried to reinstall modx and recreate the database a couple of times but nothing changed.

    What else can I do?

    Thank you everybody...

Is this in a WAMP environment?

Have you set RewriteBase /mydomain in .htaccess?

        Hello Mark,
no, it's not a WAMP environment.
It's a wImp environment, since I am running IIS 7.5.

        I did't touch the original ht.access

Maybe try renaming ht.access to .htaccess and

          RewriteBase /mydomain

No I can't rename this, windows doesn't support names starting with a dot.
I think the right name is ht.access.

            So I should write
            RewriteBase /www.mydomain.com
            ?

            What is this for?

.htaccess is a config file for Apache only, ignore it.

                Works for me on WAMP

Windows does support files starting with a dot but windows explorer can't handle them. I use Filezilla to put in the dot on my local files

I tried to install it on my pc.
                  Win 7 64bit
                  IIS 7
                  PHP 5.3
                  MySQL 5.5

I did the very same procedure to install it (as far as possible, with different os)
                  Same folder permissions.

                  IT WORKS.
                  - i don't get the /core/ path error
                  - the charset list is still empty

                  what could it be?
Is there a more detailed guide to install it?
Maybe there is some prerequisite that is misconfigured.

Seems PHP not allowed to create directories and/or files. Check the permission setting on your Windows Server or IIS, and make sure PHP have sufficient privilege to create/modify/delete files and directories.

Also check all MODX folders (root, core, assets) and make sure its not "read only".
