Revolution Installation not possible - What am I doing wrong?

Hi Everbody,

Im so tired. Since Friday Im trying to install Revolution. This is the 3rd time of trying, I gave up both times last year. Now i changed provider because of mysql version and still, Im not able to make it run.

Short history:

When I changed the provider I made one test-installation, just to be sure everthings working, it was version 2.08 or something. It worked, however I never used it because lack of time.
So the first try on friday was to upgrade to a recent version.
I got a notice for "modx_core_path" not found:

In order to install MODX Revolution, you must first locate your core directory that contains the files required to run MODX, including this setup application. The current value specified is not valid and setup cannot continue until this is resolved.
MODX_CORE_PATH
ERROR: Your MODX_CORE_PATH is invalid; please specify the correct path in the field above and click Submit.

Whatever input I made, there was no change.In the end I created manually an config.inc.php like suggested in some thread, and got some other "fatal error". (I dont remember exactly - sorry)

To be honest, I may be a little confused about different configs and all the changes I tried, so I decided to start from fresh.

I deleted everthing, upload again, made core/cache/ and core/config/ writeable and this is what happends:

Fatal error: Class 'Smarty_Internal_Resource_File' not found in /www/htdocs/w00da6db/core/model/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_template.php on line 714

Can anybody help me?

I really would like to make the change from evolution to revolution, but if I cant make a simple installation, how can I use it for my clients?

Please tell me what is the - probably very stupid - mistake Im making?

PS: Maybe I should tell you, I live at the end of the world, having Internet by satelite, which means deleting and uploading take me hours.

Same with me. I often have it that a download is incomplete or otherwise corrupt wthout realizing it immediately. So I would just retry it from the very beginning.

great, really great. Your're right. I checked some files on friday, when it has been a problem of my mistake with the writable folders. After that i didt check it again.

And your are perfectly right, there are hundreds of empty files after upload.
So what are you doing, if that happens to you? I dont understand why there is no notice from filezilla?
