    Hi

I have taken over a modx site and have tried to move it to another host. I copied all of the files under the root of the site to the new test location, however when I view the site in the browser I am greeted with the following message, any ideas on what I have done wrong - and what I need to do to resolve this?

    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

      Hi there,

      Have you looked here? http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Moving+Your+Site+to+a+New+Server

This article is for MODx Revo but the process is relatively similar for Evo. The important thing to know is that MODx uses a database (generally MySQL) and that database will also need to be migrated to the new host.

      Best of luck!

Ah thats why I didnt know it used a database for some reason I thought it was flat file structure

Is it a big job to move over to another host for a newbie? I have access to the FTP of the existing site but I would also need the database access as well?

You'll need PHPMyAdmin access. Is there cPanel at the old host? If so, log in through cPanel and towards the bottom you'll see PHPMyAdmin.

You can also try the old site's url but suffix it with /phpmyadmin and see if you get a login screen.

The same password for ftp might work for phpmyadmin.
