    Hello-

I was wondering if it is possible to use MODx for projct management. I want my clients to be able to login into their own account on my website and be taken to a page that I can use to keep them up to date on their project. This would be a different for each client or job I am doing. Almost sort like a super simple basecamphq.com but using MODx and on my website.

I guess this deals with user management, so maybe we should start with if that’s even possible with MODx and then move on to the project management. Can anyone tell me if this is possible, if it is how I should go about doing it and if there are any tutorials already written on this topic that I could follow.

    Thanks.

Sure. Using the usual web user setup in MODx you can set a start page for each user (where they’re redirected after logging in), and you can put messages for that user there. Check out the MODx documentation for more info: http://modxcms.com/why-web-users-and-web-groups.html

That’s nice and certainly will be a solution. Thanks.

In the user admin area, I have a to-do list and a file uploader I want to incorporate. I know how to make those work on the site, so that’s not an issue here. What I do have a question about is: would it be possible to make it so that every time a client creates an account MODx creates a page for them or calls specific text or things from the database based on which user is loged in? Basically automating the process for us. We have a lot of clients so it would be very time consuming to create a new page for each one manually. Thanks for the input and if I wasn’t clear enough, let me know and I will clarify more.

I would think that you could create a personal login page for each new user pretty easily by putting that code into a plugin. I think that all you’d need to do would be to create the new document in the right place and document group and add its id to that user’s info. I don’t know that you’d have to personalize the document upon creation per se, since the document could be dynamic (using a snippet that adds the specific user info and messages when they view the page).

Before you start writing your own code to do any of this, however, you may want to check out the PPP snippet here:

I bet that if you posted specifc questions to that thread you would get useful answers from people who have already created similar systems.
