A fresh MODX install sets up the admin as a super user with full access to any new resources and elements they create. If the admin starts to set up other manager users with more limited access one of the often confusing aspects of the ACL system is that the admin user now has to define what they have access to as well.
I know there is a logic to how this system is set up. At the same time I feel like it presents a real barrier to people learning the MODX ACL system. Is it possible that future MODX builds could rethink the super user, or create an ultra user, who simply always has unrestricted access to any resource or element?
I used Form Customization on a homepage template to create a simplified experience for users in my Editors group. I tested with an editor login and it works great. The next day I am managing the site and go to the home resource and I have the simple interface. Oh okay, I forgot I needed to set up a form customization profile for the admin user group, create new sets for the homepage template and leave all options checked. And I need to remember to match any new set I create for Editors with a set for the Admins.
Again, I do know there is a well thought out logic to the system. But as an intermediate level user I still find it frustrating. It's upsetting when you start creating resource groups and suddenly you, the super user, do not have access to resources. You don't feel so super any more.
I think a lot of the posts I see on ACLs in the forums relate to this issue. And I think if the main admin didn't have to continuously think about how setting up someone's limited access will affect their access people would feel more liberated to explore ACLs in greater depth. I will post it as a feature request in the bug tracker but first I wanted to see feedback because maybe the ultra user concept is not feasible.
