PHP5 and MODx issues?

Ok, so I have moved and am setting up a new site (s) on a host that is using:

Php 5.1.6 , MySQL 5.0.27, on Linux 2.6.20 and Apache 1.3.37

I am having some strange issues with AjaxSearch, slimstat, and several other snippets to name a few. I can’t post the address to the site because I am developing it in a subfolder right now, and all problems are parse errors in the manager.

I have full control of the .htaccess and php.ini files.

Does anyone have any help for what your php.ini file is setup for so that I can make sure mine is optimized? I have tried several things, but no luck or help so far, and I really don’t want to completely screw it up

Basically, if you are running the same version of PHP, would you be willing to share your settings that optimize MODx? I am getting ready to move several sites over to the new host and could use this bit of help as I am under a time crunch.

I am running several MODx instance on a similar setup, and many run MODx with PHP5 and MySQL5...
As far as I am concerned :

Apache 1.3.37
PHP 5.2.1 (I had been running 5.1.6 previously for several month)
MySQL 5.0.22

I don’t think it’s .htaccess, or I would have the same problem you have (unless you tweaked yours and didn’t stick with default).

More probably than not, in your php.ini or httpd.conf

Best thing would be to post your phpinfo() informations here...

@ejcross: can you please describe more about the problems you are having?

The only thing I see (other than my rant below) is that the session.save_path is not set... I typically see a valid tmp directory location in this setting in working environments...

[Now, please excuse off-topic interjection; just venting] Great yet another host that doesn’t understand how to configure PDO with the mysql drivers... they should stick with PHP 4 (sigh)

The one problem that I am having right now is configuring a contact form. It is not working and when I submit it, it goes back to my home page. It is also giving me an error in my log file about the date.timezone setting not being configured, so it is defaulting to the server internal configuration.

What else would you suggest for this php.ini to optimize it (regarding your rant )

I am testing and developing right now in a subfolder, so I’m not sure if that is part of the problem or not, I just want to make sure that all will work when I reconfigure the .htaccess to point to this subfolder to go "live" with the site.

That is the problem, and a common one with PHP 5.1+. The host does not have the default timezone set in the php.ini. Get them to add that to the main php.ini, but in the meantime you can do something like this in .htaccess where America/Chicago is your appropriate time zone value. See http://www.php.net/manual/en/timezones.php for supported time zones and http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.date-default-timezone-get.php for how PHP 5.1+ treats precedence with time zone settings.
