Site very sluggish. The 3500+ resource site had a traffic spike this weekend, 60K a day, and now users ~100 at a time. How can we optimize Evo site while we quickly prepare a Revo version?

With high publicity announcement, many more visitors to site than usual… current load ~100 visitors

Whole site is slow. We made our commonly used snippets as included static php files

Could you tell us more about the snippets/modules in use, and the site structure in general? What is MODX doing before it serves the content basically

We are using:
Ditto - secondary pages use Ultimate Parent
Wayfinder
Breadcrumbs
We moved them to the includes this a.m. and deleted the comment code to make them lighter. We have temporarily disabled ajax search.
plug-ins:

ckeditor
Going work on making these external now.
Everything was/is functioning until the spike, now we moved to a dedicated server(ubuntu) and it doesn't seem to be able to handle 60 concurrent users...
If you or anyone can give us some insight we will be so thankful!!!

Can you use a static menu instead of wayfinder, also are any of those extras uncached?
Breadcrumbs cached.
Ditto sometimes cached sometimes uncached (I am gathering I should test these pages all as cached ditto calls).
Wayfinder uncached.
I think I will set up static menus tonight as a temp fix while we work on moving the site to Revolution.

You should cache everything by default, unless it's necessary to have it uncached for some reason. The caching should help with the site performance. You should also consider implementing a service like CloudFlare, which should help reduce the direct traffic to the server as it serves content from it's CDN network when possible.
Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it. We are considering CloudFlare. At the moment we are enjoying some exported static html—and tomorrow Revolution!
