I have a 0.9.2.2 install running - its mostly custom snippets access a database and printing things out. Not much content management per say - we mainly use modx we have a nice interface to manage templates and document chunks.
I’ve run 0.9.6 on new installs I’m doing but I’m wondering what the advantages/benefits are in 0.9.6 BESIDES the new admin interface (theme, mootools, etc) and the default snippets/pluggins it comes with? Are there significant changes to the core that should I should want to upgrade?
Thanks,
Yehosef

Lots of things have been more thoroughly locked down and bugs addressed that could lead to site failures in certain scenarios. If your goal is to maintain a more robust environment for a longer timeframe, 096 when released should be considered a mandatory upgrade. (Not to mention significantly improved manager usability in general.)

Indeed, if they are all on the same box, then your other 0.9.6 installs (and anything else on the same server) will benefit from the 0.9.2.2 being upgraded to 0.9.6. Your entire box will be faster and more secure, although it might not be at all noticeable.
In general it seems to me that the advantages of upgrading to 0.9.6 (much more stable code base, etc.) are compelling, especially given how easy it is to do.
Personally I upgraded over a dozen 0.9.2 sites to 0.9.5 when that came out, and for the most part it was trouble-free. There was one fairly serious bug in 0.9.5 (causing MySQL loops - fixed in 0.9.6), and the Template Switcher plugin doesn’t play well with 0.9.5 either. As soon as 0.9.6 final is released I’m going to upgrade the three or four 0.9.2 hold-outs that I still have kicking around (plus a couple of old Etomite sites as well).
I don’t expect to be upgrading again past 0.9.6 for a while, however (although I may do new installs of 0.9.7). For one thing, 0.9.7 seems as if it will be a very different animal and so radically redesigned that it’s bound to have some growing pains. And for another, 0.9.6 is nearly perfect anyway...
