I’ve been doing this for sites for months now, suddenly it doesn’t work!
Using modx 0.9.5
Here’s what I’ve been doing:
1. Install Modx on my local machine
2. Build the website
3. Export the database from my local machine using phpmyadmin (data only)
4. Install Modx on the live server
5. Empty the database on the live server and replace with the one I exported from my local machine.
6. Change the .htaccess settings.
7. Change the settings in config for manager/resources paths etc
Hey presto . . . the site I’ve been building on my computer is now live!
Today, it isn’t working. I’ve done everything I usually do but now:
1. Everytime i click a document in the document tree in the manager it will only give me the home page
2. Everytime I click a snippet, plugin or chunk, it will only give me the first one in the list.
3. When I try to edit a template, I get:
"Oops, something went terribly wrong...
No database record has been found for this template.
Aborting."
So I check the database values on the live site , and it’s an exact replica of the one i use on my local machine apart from a few path differences. I haven’t updated php, or phpmyadmin, in fact nothing has changed.
Can anyone please help and perhaps point out what might be going wrong?
Thanks
I’m no expert but you might try looking in the Tools | Configuration section of the manager and look at the paths on the "Interface and Features" tab.
The next step might be running an upgrade install (just like a regular install but you click on "upgrade" instead or "new install." That should reset any paths you overwrote in the database when you uploaded the local site data.
Hope this helps,
Bob
by any chance did some of the manager files not make it on upload?
Thanks to ganeshXL, breezer and BobRay for all your help but I’ve fixed it.
You will not believe how I managed to fixed it . . . I still can’t believe it myself.
I use firefox as my main browser and only dip into IE when I absolutely have to. Out of desperation, I tried loggining into the manager from IE and guess what . . . it all worked!
I have no idea why . . . so then I shut down firefox and reopened, tried again, and I still had the same problem. So the good news is that I wasn’t imagining things. Then I cleared private data from firefox and everything was as it should be.
I have no idea why this happened. This has never happened before and I can’t understand how it could even happened. Woke up this morning thinking the whole thing was some sort of weird dream!
Maybe someone could shed some light on why and how this could happen?
Thanks guys!

If you were logged in when you made the move, it can cause all kinds of weird issues with the browser, since it’s trying to use its cookies for the new site when they were set by the old site.
Firefox lets you view the cookes in Tools | Options | Security - cookies tab.
It looks like MODx sets five of them when you’re on as a manager and some have paths in them so Susan is probably right. I’ve you’re really curious, you could try to duplicate the problem and look at the cookies before and after the fix.
Bob
thanks bobray . . . I’ll do that on my next install!
