SMF integration with Login snippet functions (Revolution only)

Am looking to get SMF integrated with the Revolution snippet "Login" and the ability to set a cookie or a session when users login through SMF into the Login snippet, SMF uses SHA1 to store passwords and Modx uses MD5 salted to store passwords so it would be a bit difficult to import the user passwords from the smf tables into the modx login tables, is there some way to get this working?
Can a SMF user be authenticated in MODX (Login snippet) when logging in through SMF or reverse order? (modx to smf).

I have been using the SMF Bridge for Evolution together with WebLoginPE but i stopped using evolution because it didnt reach my requirements and i feel that Revolution is a bit more customisable.

PS: I have already read that the WebloginPE now works with SMF bridge but i am only interesting in developing Modx Revolution.
