I've recently imported a large volume of websites (basically 50+) into one Modx install and I'm now in a position to transfer from my local machine to a server. My difficulty is knowing what sort of spec I should be looking for that ensures Modx is able to run smoothly. From calculating the traffic that the current sites get you're looking at a combined total of around 5-6Gb of bandwidth a month. So basically it needs to be able to handle that amount of traffic as well as potentially multiple users working on it at the same time. Does anybody have any suggestions please?

When you say one install, do you really mean one instance of MODX and each site is in a different context?

Yeah apologies that is what I meant. It is basically one instance of Modx (2.2.0pl) with each site having it's own context. I know that the Modx website lists some basic requirements which are needed at http://modx.com/revolution/developer/requirements/ yet based upon the solution I've created I know it'll need more considerations. I'm just a little stumped in terms of knowledge to know what is likely to be required in terms of a spec.

I'm not qualified to advise on hardware. I always tend to over specify. However I am intrigued by your set up of one instance of MODX. I've currently got about 20 clients running Revolution on a dedicated server but I decided to keep them all separate with individual Plesk domains and installs of MODX. I toyed with the idea of your approach, so that I only had to patch one instance of MODX, but I got cold feet about putting all my eggs in one basket because if a MODX upgrade goes wrong it would affect all my clients. Also I wasn't sure I could neatly separate /asset folders.

I'd be interested for updates on how it goes for you to help me decide if I should have taken your approach.
