I seem to have a talent for discovering (or creating embarrassed ) odd behavior in MODx.

I tried to upgrade to the new version of MaxiGallery (1.5.2) by copying the files to the assets/snippets/maxigallery folder and then pasting the new snippet code into the MaxiGallery snippet. All my photos disappeared so I re-installed MaxiGallery 1.5.1. Photos still gone - no manage photos button.

Then things got truly weird. In the MODx File Manager, many of my directories don’t show up. Even at the top level, two of my four directories are missing and many subdirectories simply don’t show. I don’t see anything systematic about which ones are missing and some of the missing dirs and files are above the level of the MaxiGallery directory.

All the files and directories are still there in Windows explorer and, except for the photos, everything in the site runs fine.

I tried clearing the cache, re-starting Apache, checking the hard drive for errors, and re-booting the machine with no effect.

Doesn’t MODx create the list in file manager on the fly from the physical directories? How can it not see directories that are there and have been all along?

    Any clues appreciated.

    Windows XP pro.
    XAMPP 1.5.1
    Php 5.1.1
    MySQL 5.0.18
    MODx 0.9.5

Maybe the Windows permissions got trashed. I’m not familiar with the Windows permission system, but I do know that it can behave in weird ways sometimes.

I guess it’s possible, but the machine only has one user so I’m the same user whether I look at the files in Windows or through the manager so it seems unlikely. Also, I’ve got simple file sharing turned on and the settings are the same for the folders that do show up as for the folders that don’t.

I suppose an upgrade install is in order but first, maybe I’ll take a peekat the File Manager source code.

I found the first dir() call in file manager and inserted code right after it (before any processing) to dump the contents of $dir. The same files and folders are missing.

As Susan suggests, it sounds like a permission issue but I’ve checked and, as far as I can tell, the permission settings are exactly the same for all files and folders here. I also made sure that non of the files or folders are designated as hidden.

I’ve googled for quirks in the php dir() command on XP but came up empty.

Not sure where to go from here . . . :’(

            Talk about a bizarre coincidence.

I finally figured out what was going on. My Resource path in MODx was pointing to a directory just off the root of my C: drive (still haven’t figured out how that happened).

Coincidentally, there was a correctly named sub-directory off the root (that I installed in 2005) that matched the name of my current site directory. Of course it had many of the same files and folders and I was looking a it in file manager.

Still no luck with Maxigallery so I’m off to the Maxigallery support forum.

If you need someone to torture-test MODx 1.0, I’m your guy. If there’s a way to mung it up, I’ll find it. laugh
