Hi,
I managed to update to 2.2.0-pl2, but both manager and the website are now much slower than they used to be. I did a clean install on another server first and the manager was very snappy and fluid.
I used Bluehost in both cases, the differences are that on the test run I had no content and the 'core' was on the same as directory. Do we get a speed penalty for installing modx core directory outside '/www'?
My site has around 1000 pages, what can I do to make it more efficient, my users will give up on me if the usability is just not up to standard...
Any advice? Many thanks.
SC.
Update: I have been trying different things for about 5 hours now and I am getting seriously frustrated. Identifying and fixing issues with Modx can be a very daunting task for someone who is not a expert. At this point I am considering a clean install but what about the resources/elements and packages configurations already installed...

Post more information about your environment, such as PHP/MySQL versions, suhosin enabled, what *specifically* is slow, what addons you're using, anything in the error.log file, etc. You'll have to give more information.

Environment:
Apache version-2.2.21 ; PHP version-5.2.17; MySQL version-5.1.60-community-log; Architecture-x86_64;Operating system-linux
Addons:
archivist,Articles, bloggingessentials, frontpage,Gallery*,getpage, getresourcefield, getresources, if, importx, login, newspublisher, quip, simplesearch, taglister, TinyMCE, ultimateparent, wayfinder.
* Although Gallery is installed and working the install button is green on the package management screen, when I try to install a get the following "message:Could not load package metadata for package gallery".
What is slow:
Opening any resource to edit it. To show any of the Resources/Elements/Files trees. To be honest the all manager is quite slow...
Error.log:
I get a lot of the following: (ERROR in xPDOConnection::connect @ [coredirectory]core/xpdo/xpdo.class.php : 2955) SQLSTATE[42000] [1203] User [database] already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections
Suhosin:
I am sorry but I don't know where do we check if this feature is enabled or not.
Thank you.

Hello,
The error message you are getting indicates you are hitting the maximum connections to your database (the max_user_connections bit).
Could you ask your host to increase this limit and see if the performance improves some?
This is the answer I got from Bluehost:
MySQL connections are made, and then closed very quickly, generally in only a matter of milliseconds. If you are exceeding the 15 concurrent connections limit, then you likely have a rogue plugin or script which isn't properly closing its connections.
How could I check?

Hello,
Could you disable the html/css compression in the manager, and list what if any snippets are uncached on your site. Does this site get a lot of traffic, or are there a lot of other manager users?
Ok,
I have uninstalled all the unused addons and one particular snippet, activedirectory was generating a lot of errors too. Once I got rid of the AD snippet, the mysql connection errors stopped, so far.
And no, not a lot of web or manager users.
Manager still very slow though...
Update: I get this error now:
[2012-01-17 13:12:49] (ERROR @ [COREDIR]/cache/includes/elements/modsnippet/31.include.cache.php : 94) PHP warning: array_merge() [<a href='function.array-merge'>function.array-merge</a>]: Argument #2 is not an array

Ok, I need a break...
I've being banging my head against the walls for way to long, I am really tired, frustration and anger are creeping up on me.
I love Modx..... but what is the point of having all those great apps if it takes 5mins to load them or 15mins to save anything. I know, I should be more specific, what is slow? is suhosin enabled? Is your time-zone correct on php.ini? How do you control your cache? I don't know, I though that running my site on a CMS platform would precisely free me from some of these things....
My only option left is to do a clean install, I have no idea how with all the resources I already got. If that doesn't work I'll start looking for other CMS solutions.
