Yes, I had started testing it while it was still in alpha around a year ago or so.
The admin has nice icons and is well designed (web 2.0-ish), the code is fully object oriented, templating seems way better than many community systems but that’s were I’d categorize it : a community oriented lightweight portal. I don’t know about the framework behind it and how powerful it is for gadgets, plugins and components creation though.
Still, the logic behind it is very similar to the (in)famous block system you get in any community/portal oriented CMS... you get to choose a one - two or three columns layout with header and footer and choose which component is active and where. It’s a very different logic from the fully tag based system of MODx, Textpattern or CMS Made Simple which make them so popular with XHTML/CSS designers...
You don’t enjoy the same level of flexibility you have with MODx. As usual, TVs have no match to provide easily templatable custom fields (all the more that you could even say TVs are much more than that, consider @Bindings...).
Is Jaws a good system ?
I sure think so and if I had to build a community website, I would choose it over most other community oriented systems around !
But MODx is a better suited tool if you need control over data structure and design. I wouldn’t build a corporate website with Jaws for instance, or an art showcase or any website which gets out of the portal/community paradigm...

Thanks for your comments David!
I guess I won’t need to continue exploring Jaws for now – it doesn’t seem to fill my current needs.
Nothing fills your needs like an ice cold MODx!
Those icons are nice though...
One interesting fact about Jaws though is that it will be ported to PHP 6 through Google SOC. It seems PHP.net were the ones that applied...
