I’ve updated one site from 095 to 096RC3.

Cyrillic strings, which I enter in the manager get smashed in the DB — as huh?????.
On the web-site they appear in a wrong way as well.
    Other sites with RC3 work.
Content, entered before update is seen perfectly in DB and on the site.
    Everything is set to utf-general-ci.

    MySQL Server version: 4.1.21-standard

What was the original collation settings for the DB ?
If it was different from the one you chose upon update, it’s normal you have a problem...

Check the $database_connection_charset = setting in config.inc.php too, you never know...

          OK then...

I noticed you mentionned utf-general-ci as collation set, but my utf8 website use utf8_unicode_ci : is that normal ?
