I have had MODx Revo installed on this site for many months. And just recently it will not save pre-existing templates/snippets or save new ones. Instead it just goes to a 404 page.

Sounds very much like your hosting has configured some kind of suhosin or mod_security. Can you save anything at all in a template or a snippet? Even just a bit of test text?
