BTW, FileZilla can recursively chmod your remote files/directories. You can specify whether you want to chmod files only or directories only.
You can also do this:
find . -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \; find . -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;

The faster method would be to use ssh:
chmod -R u=rwX,go=rX ~/public_html/
At least it works great for me
