    Hi everyone!

I'm new to modX and I'm learning to use it since I got a new job as a web developer in my company and to do the website manteinance I had to learn modX (0.9.6.3 version, which you nickname 'Evolution').

Right now, I could solve all problems except one... the login in the modx backoffice (which you call 'Modx Manager' in the production is too damn slow! It lasts as much as a minute... an exact minute to be precise! I'd made a search on the forum I don't know if much of you people had this kind of problem. The problem is even greater since that while the administrator is logging in manager if someone visits the site's frontoffice, it had to wait until the wait for the one minute to complete terminates on the while... I'd fired firebug network profiler to get the timing footprint and I discovered that is the tree loading on the left pane which is the responsable. Through the mysql logs, I know that is the 'modx_site_content' table that is being queried at the time modx is loading the tree inside manager... and it takes the one exact minute to finish the login waiting for the site content tree to appear. Since the visitor is waiting for the site home page to appear, I suspect modx puts a lock in that table 'modx_site_content' while the query is being executed. The exact one-minute is for me very suspect because could be a configuration-parameter on PHP-side (I tried to put a
    set_time_limit(30)
instruction on the top of manager's index.php - no effect! - I tried also
    ini_set(mysql.allow.persistent,'off'))
    and
    ini_set(mysql.connect_timeout,30)
    also without any effect! ).
Forget to tell you, our modX based-site is contained in a IIS web server, with a damn' old PHP 4.4 and MySQL 4.1 .

Do you have any clues what it could be !?

In the first place, 0.9.6.3 is not Evolution. It's a very old version of the original MODx. 1.0x is Evolution, based on the original code, while 2.x is the new code called Revolution.

How many documents do you have? MODx/Evolution does have serious problems as the number of documents approaches 5,000.

        Hi

        thanks for your reply, Susan.

About the document count, I have around 1100 documents. I figure that based on the id of the last documented created, which is 1147. So, if it's not the total document count, there could it be that is running on a IIS server !? It's only on the manager logon that we see these performance problems happening.

        thanks again.

Did you try (or could you try) upgrading the site to 1.0.5 and see if that resolve the issue? Also do you have any error messages?

Does Evolution have the newsfeeds on startup? In Revolution, that can make things very slow if you're on a slow internet connection or the MODX server is having trouble. Disabling the feeds can speed things up considerably.
