Hey guys, im quite new to all this stuff and im having a hard time gettin FURLS working. This is what i did.

    • followed archivist wiki to setup archives
    • only then realised i needed to setup Furls, so followed the FURL wiki http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Friendly_URLs_Guide?
    • I changed all the relevant settings in Revolution 2.2 to turn on FURLS - my pages then turned to an error 404 page
    • So i now have appended my .htaccess file so it looks like this below. Modx is installed in a subdirectory /modx and i have changed the .htaccess file in the /modx folder
    .
    # Friendly URLs Part
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /modx
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
    # Force all pages to go to www.antsinmyspacebar.com/ for SEO
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.antsinmyspacebar\.com [NC]
    RewriteRule (.*) http://www.antsinmyspacebar.com/.$1 [R=301,L]
    # Friendly URLs
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /modx/index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]
    # Additional Settings Follow
    ExpiresActive On
    ExpiresByType image/gif A2592000
    ExpiresByType image/jpeg A2592000
    ExpiresByType image/png A2592000
    BrowserMatch "MSIE" brokenvary=1
    BrowserMatch "Mozilla/4.[0-9]{2}" brokenvary=1
    BrowserMatch "Opera" !brokenvary
    SetEnvIf brokenvary 1 force-no-vary!brokenvary

its is hosted with GoDaddy - Linux / 4GH Web Hosting - Apache server.

I tried to place a .htaccess file in the root directory above the /modx folder with the command "allowoveride All" but noe i have an internal server error at http://www.antsinmyspacebar.com/modx/manager/ so i deleted that .htaccess file and i still have the server error!!

    What am i doing wrong???

I have scoured the forums for answers but many posts are very old and relate to older maybe evolution problems.

    Thanks
    Barry

      ---Edit---
I reset the .htaccess file in /modx/manager and i have access back to the manager (it was a desperate attempt to get Furls working)

Still at a loss getting FURLS working........thanks

        Change this line
        RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /modx/index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

        to
        RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

mod_rewrite knows because of the RewriteBase where the index.php file is located.
        Does this help?
If you're still getting the errors, try to comment out the additional setting afterwards.

i just changed that but it still doesn't work

is this part of the code right??

          # Force all pages to go to www.antsinmyspacebar.com/ for SEO
          RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.antsinmyspacebar\.com [NC]
          RewriteRule (.*) http://www.antsinmyspacebar.com/.$1 [R=301,L]

what about "allowoveride All"....is that the default setting on an Apache server...because i'm not sure where to implement that if it isnt

You were looking to the Guide for modx evolution.
Here's the one for modx revo:
            http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Using+Friendly+URLs

Here's my .htaccess. Also installed modx in a directory "modx" inside the document_root:
            RewriteEngine On
            RewriteBase /modx

            # Rewrite www.domain.com -> domain.com -- used with SEO Strict URLs plugin
            #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
            #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^example-domain-please-change\.com [NC]
            #RewriteRule (.*) http://example-domain-please-change.com/$1 [R=301,L]
            #
            # or for the opposite domain.com -> www.domain.com use the following
            # DO NOT USE BOTH
            #
            #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
            #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example-domain-please-change\.com [NC]
            #RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example-domain-please-change.com/$1 [R=301,L]

            # Rewrite secure requests properly to prevent SSL cert warnings, e.g. prevent
            # https://www.domain.com when your cert only allows https://secure.domain.com
            #RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} !^443
            #RewriteRule (.*) https://example-domain-please-change.com.com/$1 [R=301,L]

            # The Friendly URLs part
            RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
            RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
            RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

Also this line looks strange, why is there a html a tag?
            RewriteRule (.*) <a href="http://www.antsinmyspacebar.com/.$1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.antsinmyspacebar.com/.$1</a>
Just look at the example inside the ht.access or above in mine and adjust your domain name.

i dont have that html, i dont know where that came from,

just to confirm i now have a file .htaccess in the folder antsinmyspacebar.com/modx/

              with code;

              # MODX supports Friendly URLs via this .htaccess file. You must serve web
              # pages via Apache with mod_rewrite to use this functionality, and you must
              # change the file name from ht.access to .htaccess.
              #
              # Make sure RewriteBase points to the directory where you installed MODX.
              # E.g., "/modx" if your installation is in a "modx" subdirectory.
              #
              # You may choose to make your URLs non-case-sensitive by adding a NC directive
              # to your rule: RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA,NC]

              # Friendly URLs Part
              RewriteEngine On
              RewriteBase /modx

              #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
              # Force all pages to go to www.antsinmyspacebar.com/ for SEO
              #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.antsinmyspacebar\.com [NC]
              #RewriteRule (.*) http://www.antsinmyspacebar.com/.$1 [R=301,L]
              # Friendly URLs
              # The Friendly URLs part
              RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
              RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
              RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

But still not working - im happy to see that its more than just the usual silly mistake i usually make.

              Thanks for your help Wanze

                    OK Success!!!!

i messed around with the settings and turned off "use friendly alias path" at the very bottom and now Furls work.

The tutorial says to turn this on though, so why the exception in my case?
