I saw in the Quip manual that it could be used with reCaptcha through a simple
     &recaptcha=`1`
property, but in the package management (version Rev 2.1.5 by the way) I can't see ReCaptcha anywhere as a package that can be used / downloaded.

I saw there was a package for Captcha but according to the notes accompnaying the package, it's for use with the MODx manager login form.

So is there any way I can use either captcha or recaptcha with Quip- the manual seems to imply that there is???

    Thanks

Anyone know if this is possible? If it's not possible with ReCaptcha, I wonder why the documentation seems to suggest otherwise...

Is there a Captcha-type system for MODx that would work with Quip, if not?

Thanks. So from that discussion it looks as if (I guess) Quip is supposed to come with reCaptcha built in?

I think so, but you have to register with reCaptcha and set the keys for Quip.

I've had a look, and generated public and private keys, the problem is that Google tell you to insert some code directly into the form, but Quip seems to be made purely from PHP, there isn't any actual HTML or form tags where I can place the code...

In short it looks like a nightmare to set up- surely there has to be a simple Captcha system that can be plugged into MODx components such as Quip? Anyone? [ed. note: galahad5 last edited this post 14 years, 10 months ago.]

It's not a nightmare to setup. Right now I'm `stupid`ing my way through the verify part for Login.

I do have the display part working for Login without a prehook defined in the Property Set (PS). When I did have `recaptcha` in the prehook I couldn't find where to enter my public key.

So I just manually added it to the logintpl using the info from here:
                http://code.google.com/apis/recaptcha/docs/display.html

I checked another Revo 2.2 I'm developing using Articles for the blogging tools, and I don't find a Property in the PS for public and private recaptcha keys. :-(

UPDATE: discovered that the System Settings do indeed contain settings for recaptcha. But they do not have a namespace associated in the Lexicon. Use the `search by key` to find them.

Makes me wonder: what other settings am I not seeing??

At any rate, I followed the instructions to a `T` here:
                  http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/Login.Login

I cleared my browser cache, the core\cache and reloaded the page in a browser that's not used to login to the Manager. I get the same old same old: it doesn't acknowledge my API keys; not my global nor multi-site keys.

Why? Because it simply doesn't save the keys. System Settings don't have a `Save` function the way Property Sets do.

So, instead of putting the values in `value`, I accessed the contextual menu and `Update Setting` to add the value there. I clicked on `Save`. AGAIN, it did not Save the values.

I noticed I got a squiggly underline error under Namespaces when saving the Update Setting. So I selected `Update Setting` again and changed the Namespace to login. I'm not sure if by doing this I'm associating/activating the keys only with login, or if it carries over system-wide for use in Quip.

Thanks for the info. I did eventually get reCaptcha set up with Login, of course the client is now complaining that reCaptcha is "too challenging" to use (they have a point, but after a few refreshes you can usually find a combination that you can type in successfully... the problem is more the audio, which is just weird). Still, it doesn't look like there's an actual inbuilt normal Captcha so they're stuck with the better system!

The regular MODX CAPTCHA plugin can be used with extras, but I don't know if Quip has that option or not. Used with the mathstring option, it's fairly secure.
