Well I guess I successfully installed modx on my server, but I am running into a little problem.
I keep getting this error message when I try to add a file.

"Upload feature inhibited - make sure uploads are supported and the directory is writable for PHP."

I did some reading on the message board and found this topic:
    http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,2995.0.html

I made all the directories mentioned in the above thread world writable but I am still getting the same error message above.

Here is what I am dealing with:

    PHP 5.1.1 (cli) (built: Dec 2 2005 17:19:01)
Copyright (c) 1997-2005 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.1.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2005 Zend Technologies

    mysql Ver 12.22 Distrib 4.0.26, for unknown-linux-gnu (x86_64)

    Linux 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp #1 SMP Mon Sep 25
    17:24:31 EDT 2006 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    Server version: Apache/2.0.55
    Server built: Jun 14 2006 19:01:53

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Reports -> System info, then in the "Server" block, and view the phpinfo(). Scroll down to Configuration - PHP Core, and see if "file uploads" is set to On.

Which directory you want to access through MODx file manager? It should be CHMOD 0777.

capin: I was getting the same error when trying to upload images. See http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,13427.msg88251.html#msg88251
I found the paths in tools->configuration to be wrong. That may be your problem.
          Cheers,

Generally speaking, those "main" directories aren’t supposed to be world-writable, only the assets/images, assets/files and a few other of the folders in assets that your scripts will need to write to (and the file manager is a script, after all). What does it say if you navigate to the assets/images folder?

It’s a security thing, you don’t want "anybody" to be able to write to the directories that hold your code, such as plugins, modules and snippets.

That’s why I specifically looked for hosting that runs PHP as "CGI" or "Fast CGI" with suexec, so that the scripts will run as their owner (me) rather than the Apache user. That way no files or folders ever need to be world-writable.

Susan; Off the topic, but could you do a wiki on what to look for in a hosting service and why?
                Thanks,
