Hi MODx'ers,
we use MODx in a multilingual, multidomain environment over several stages from development, quality assurance to production.
Currently, we are looking into improving our deployment process. My question is: System Settings, such as site_url for every context, as well as other custom system settings (for examples domain names we use) are merely stored in the cache?
Because, if this is the case, we will have to change these settings everytime we update the database (which we do in a whole). I would rather store this information in the config file and read it from there?
Can I use the $config array for these purposes?
Hi Chris
System settings are stored in the database in the modx_system_settings table; context settings under modx_context_settings.
They are then cached as they are not likely to change often.
I have a simpler setup than you but generally when pushing updates to the remote server I am more selective about which tables to import and generally leave the system settings, workspaces and other tables that don't often change. If they do change, a little care needs to be taken not to overwrite paths or local settings.
That said, nobody is stopping you from creating some kind of custom config file but you'll also need to build a plugin or snippet to make that data available in placeholders.
