Can Modx be used for making a community website having the following features:
    - a profile page for registered users where the user can add and edit contents by using a buildt-in WYSIWYG/source html-editor . . .
    -a mailbox (messages to/from other users) with an inbox/outbox . . .
    - each user has a guestbook . . .
    - a guestlist on each profile where the user can view the last 10 (or whatever) visitors and the date/time of each visit . . .
    - each user has the ability to create in site discussionforums and become member of other user’s forums . . .
    - a member search function . . .
    - the ability to upload profile image files . . .
    - an image gallery for each user . . .

. . . The reason why I’m asking is that I would try to avoid learning MODx, Typo3, Joomla etc. and spend weeks in order to find out what these apps can do.
If the answer is NO on all of the above points, maybe it’s better to learn php/mySQL and make such a website from scratch? smiley

MODx really isn’t focused on being YAPS (Yet Another Portal System). So out of the box the answer is no. With using some available resources, and coding other parts, you’ll save a lot of time over doing it from scratch.
