Hi, does anyone know if there's a way of using MODx itself (rather than some extertnal PHP app which would be my other choice) to create a "members area" inside a folder on the website, so that (for example) the link for Members Area goes to /members/login.html, users log in (if they have a username set up by the admin) and can then browse an array of "members only" pages which still use the same or similar MODx page templates as for the rest of the site?

Ideally this should all be controllable by the MODx site admin through the backend, rather than the content managers having to use a whole different system for managing users.

Important: none of these "members area" pages should be available to the general public- if someone happens to browseto the URL of such a page and they're not logged in, they get redirected to /members/login.html.

Can this be done, and if so, does anyone know how?

BTW I've tried looking at the "Login" set of snippets, but there doesn't seem to be any clear documentation that describes how to fit them all together to create an environment for users...

Hi galahad5, Login is definitely the right tool for all of that, it does everything you mention plus more.

The official docs are here http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/Login

And BobRay wrote one of the most complete guides on permissions and security here http://bobsguides.com/revo-security-tutorials.html
