Made a fresh install on my dedicated server and got this:

FATAL ERROR: MODX Setup cannot continue.

To use PHP 5.3.0+, you must set the date.timezone setting in your php.ini. Please do set it to a proper timezone before proceeding. A list can be found here.

My server is managed by Plesk, any help ? Im a bit of a newbie on the dedicated server area, so please describe what to do in slightly details thanks.

You need to add the following lines in the php.ini file in the MODX root. If there isn't one, just create one and add these lines:

      [Date]
; Defines the default timezone used by the date functions
      date.timezone = "America/Los_Angeles"

If you're in another timezone, there's a list of supported timezone settings here: http://www.php.net/manual/en/timezones.php

If you don't have the ability to create and edit files on the server, you can download the php.ini file in the MODX root, edit it, and upload it. Make a backup copy of the file before you start. If there isn't one, you can create it locally in any text editor and upload it.

Just be careful not to overwrite an existing php.ini on the server with one you created yourself.

It's not making any difference, added a php.ini file containing only the 3 lines you submitted in the root of the modx project, but i get the same message when trying to enter /setup/.

Your host may have things set to that php.ini is ignored.

You can also set the time zone in an .htaccess file in the root.

          See this: http://support.lunarpages.com/knowledge_bases/article/230

Note that MODX installs a file called ht.access. That's ignored until you rename it to .htaccess, which you do when turning on Friendly URLs in the Manager. Your host may already have placed an .htaccess file in the MODX root directory. If not, you can create a new one with just the timezone setting. Just remember later, if you want to turn on Friendly URLs, to rename the MODX ht.access file to .htaccess and add your timezone setting to it.

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator to inform of the time the error occurred and of anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Some hosts are really picky and don't allow an .htaccess file or restrict what it can contain. It's also possible that you made a typing error and your .htaccess file has a syntax error.

If the .htaccess file has the options follow symlinks line uncommented, try commenting it out (put a # at the beginning of the line). That will throw a server 500 error on some hosts.

If none of that works, it's time to talk to your hosting service. Just ask them how you can set the time zone properly and tell them where you're located.
