    Hi folks,

the newsletter from the german "Dr. Web Magazin" (www.drweb.de) today links to an article about modx. The Webkrauts write about modx at: http://www.webkrauts.de/2007/03/01/content-management-und-webstandards-modx/ (author: Sylke Wienold, http://www.lausitz-webdesign.de/)

Could you give us the gist of what it says?

The article gives a short overview about modx. It focuses first on the standard conformance with XHTML and CSS based layouts and the abilities to build accessible web pages. Sylke points to the efficient rights management. She writes about the architecture with templates, snippets, tv’s and chunks and links to muddydogpaws.com for examples in various menus.

With a screenshot of the (old) manager view Sylke details the work with modx and says that it’s possible to use the in-build templates as well as easy integrating own written templates. TinyMCE is focused as the standard RTE and the front end editing with QuickEdit.

A subsection describes the rights management with Sylke’s summary: More exactly and more particularly is difficult to find.

Some negative aspects in her opinion are
        - required english language skills (my english is horrible but there are no problems for me grin )
        - the html invalid manager area
        - knowledge in PHP for deeper adjustments
        - the small german site, german forum and wiki
        - JS required for manager area

The result of the article is: try modx if you reach limits with other CM systems. Modx produces valid and accessible code if the developer writes correct basics. If a skilled web designer sets up the system each user can edit content if he can switch on a PC and use an office software.
But the admin should check the pages at times to avoid mistakes based on the RTE, e.g. with incorrect nested lists or empty tags.

All in all it’s a pleasant article written by Sylke Wienold.

Sounds like a fair and accurate review, though why would she use the old screenshots?

            Hi folks,

I’d like to try to answer in English. Let’s go:

I found MODx more than a year ago - and loved it from the first moment.
Then I realized some websites with it.

The "Webkrauts" are the German version of "Brit Pack".

I’ve wrote some comments on the Webkrauts homepage, sometimes with a link to MODx.
Then the Webkrauts ask me to write a articel about MODx.

I’ve wrote a wonderful hymn of (about?) MODx... smiley
but they ask me to write more in a journalistically style. Not so much "Suuuper-MODx"-style smiley. (Sorry, but I’m not a writer, not a experienced author.) But Webkrauts helped me.
So I worked more seriously, read more other articles about other CMS, changed a lot of things.
The result of it all is online. But in this time the new MODx version was published. Sorry, but I forgot to make new screenshots.

            I don’t know - maybe I will write more articles - later!
Today I want to work with MODx. That’s ok!

            With best greetings from Germany
wish you all a happy Easter!

            Sylke

              Thanks for the article grin

Though my german is quite rusty and I am not able to really grasp the full extent of what you wrote, it’s good for MODx to get some attention smiley There are lots of talented devs in Germany, maybe this will be an incentive to try MODx and see for themselves smiley
