Hi, I am working on a site that the client offers three different services and all are related to her profession, and client wishes to categorize in such manner:

    home : www.clientwebsite.com

from there there are links to three services (sections) she offers and wanted to use subdomain for each section, for example:

    service1.clientwebsite.com
    service2.clientwebsite.com
    service3.clientwebsite.com

In each section it serves as a subsite and articles/pages are only related to that service, with links back to the homepage and other two sections, but the contact and about page are shared with others.

It seems easy, however my knowledge for database mySQL and PHP is too limited for me to draw a picture in my head. If I create 3 folders for each sections in the document three, will Modx able to sort that out that what I want is:

    service1.clientwebsite.com/page.html

    instead of

    clientwebsite.com/service1/page.html

? If not, what do I need to do to make it happens?

    Thanks!

Use your domain’s control panel to create the three subdomains, then install MODx in each one (use a different prefix for each one’s database if you cannot have three separate databases). Use weblinks to connect them.

thanks. I know I need to install three subdomains and have already done that. With your suggestion, it means clients has to login to seperate Modx’s manager to add articles, and that I have to setup the site in three Modx and each uses its own stylesheet(s), templates, chunks, TVs etc?

        Not very appetising thought undecided

There are hacks you can use to make it work as subsites I think, but you’re looking an a non-upgrade-friendly solution. This capability will be addressed in a future version.

Why not use Friendly URLs with the Alias Paths option? Arguably, that’d do better things for Google Page Rank if you set up your internal link structure properly.

I have had many clients start down this road and usually after filling them in on the maintenance challenges, the page rank issues and even potential user confusion they look at the increased price and time and change their mind.
