I've had to hold on the development of our web site, but back at it now. I host at site5.com and have a temporary place holder index page under the public_html directory. If you go to my site http://testcompany.com it will pull up that temporary index page just fine. Now, I have modx evo (latest revision) installed normally, which of course creates a folder called modx-1.0.5 under the public_html directory. I have one page created in modx, the index page. Clicking preview pulls up the page just fine with the url showing in the browser page as testcompany.com/modx-1.0.5/

If I delete the temporary place holder index page in the public folder and choose to "publish" the modx index page it does not pull anything up when I go to my browser and type in my company's url. I realize I am a newbie with modx, but I know I am missing something very simple. Is there a certain command for the base url in the modx settings? Could someone walk me thru this simple step and let me know what I am missing? I have asked this question before but never really got the answer that worked.

Thanks! [ed. note: dgroppen last edited this post 14 years, 8 months ago.]

you must tell modx what is your idex page ID.
The one you deleted was 1, I guess the new one is 2, check it in the resource tree.
Then go to system parameters, in the core : select site,
the value you need to chage is site-start from 1 to your page ID.

      Have fun with modx.

OOPS you are running EVO my answer was for REVO

In EVO, you must go to tools then configuration and change the site start from 0 to your page ID.

        Hope this help

          Hi Philippe,

My "Home" page ID is actually at 1, not 0. The only other resource I have in there right now is a Contact Us page with a page ID of 3. Under configuration site start is set to 1. I don't have a URL Alias set, would that make a difference?

            I don't think so...
Have you change you configuration to tell modx where to start ?
In revo it is in tab called tools
then you click on menu item configuration.

On 1.0.4 it is the 5th item you need to change to whatever it is to the id number of the resource you want to be your site first page. I understand from your post you have a welcome page with number 1 as an id, then site start should be 1, AND page must be publish.
Alias MUST be set up if you activate friendly url....

As I understand it you've got Modx in a folder in the public_html ?

If that is the case move everything from the folder into the public_html folder and it should work.

Yes, modx is in the public folder. The standard install does that automatically of course. I believe I tried moving all those files out of the modx folder didn't work, I couldn't access virtually anything in manager. But, I didn't change any file paths. But If I remember correctly I couldn't get to the tools to reset the file paths once I moved the files. I'll try it again and see if it works.

Ok, after moving the files out of the modx folder and directly in to the public folder typing in my domain now brings up the functional home page. Now, while I am in modx manager and can see the directory structure but my main window gives me this error:

                  "
                  Not Found

The requested URL /modx-1.0.5/manager/index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Did you also move the /manager folder to public_html, and does it have an index.php file?
