I seem to have made a bit of a boo-boo!

I was customising access to resources as per:

    http://bobsguides.com/controlling-access-to-resources-in-the-manager.html

I dragged all resources to a new group called 'editables'. Assigned my new editor and super users to the group, now I have no access at all to any resources!

Is there any way to just remove all changes I have made and just start from scratch again? [ed. note: last edited this post 12 years, 5 months ago.]

Try just adding yourself to all those user groups with a role of Super User.

Then flush permissions and then flush all sessions.

I must admit I am very, very confused!

Is this still possible? In the steps outlined I never created a group "admin Super User" so there is only groups: "Editors" and "Administrator".

If I look at resource groups it all just seems to be empty, where context "web" was once full I now see nothing except the empty web context and "editables" which looks like it is empty.

Can I just replace the relevant tables with ones from my backup? If so which tables should I replace?

I think I should just save messing with such extreme things for a time when I have a blank install and loads of time on my hands.

I feel rather stupid at the moment! [ed. note: last edited this post 12 years, 5 months ago.]

Right– I can see resources again (as per the advice that I should add myself to the editors group with a role of super user), the only issues is that I have is that this is all far too complicated for the time being.

Is there any way to remove all the roles and resource groups that weren’t there originally so I can back to where I was before I started with this train crash of editing the users and resource access?

I would really like to be able to just save this for a time when I have less extreme deadlines (I was stupid and thought I would be able to get my head round this as my last job before go-live).

My current thought is that I should just admit defeat and create another install and add everything back in, which is a bit of a shame and will involve not much sleep over the next couple of days. [ed. note: last edited this post 12 years, 5 months ago.]

A faster route might be to just create another install in a subdirectory and look at the default groups, roles, policies, policy templates, and ACL entries. Then you'd know what not to delete.

FYI, there are no default resource groups in the base install, so you can remove all of those without causing any trouble. The only user groups are Administrator and (anonymous), so you can remove others (after removing the resource groups). The Administrator user group has only one member (the admin super user). The only roles are Super User and Member.

The only Policies are Administrator, Content Editor, Element, Load Only, Load, List, and View, Object, and Resource.

The Administrator user group has two Context Access ACL entries (web and mgr). And *no* ACL entries on the Resource Group Access and Element Category Access tabs.

Hopefully, you haven't created any policy templates, so you shouldn't need to mess with that (and leaving any extra ones shouldn't hurt as long as they are no long assigned to anyone in ACL entries).

If you remove the extras, the ACL entries should go away on their own.

            **********
As an alternative, if you can describe what you have now and what you want to accomplish clearly enough, we might be able to tell you how to get there.

An old thread, but here is a better answer: https://bobsguides.com/default-acl-entries.html
