I've had frontend content editing and creating solution for a good while now, but I'm not happy with it. I want to let my editors work on the backend as it works smoother and it's just easier for me to have one less thing to worry about. However, the backend has much stuff that I don't like to show to my editors and lacks in ease of use. For this purpose I wish to modify it in a manner that lets me hide stuff from this user group, and on the other hand show something else.
For now I have used form customization (a great feature) to hide fields I don't want them to worry about. However, creating a new document means for them to right click on the right parent etc. etc. and that's just too complicated in my opinion. I have managed to edit the home page of the manager from the welcome.tpl adding links pointing to creating a new document under the right parent (example: manager/index.php?id=3&a=48&class_key=modDocument&parent=3&context_key=web) and this solution seems to work fine for now, though it's everything but a techy solution. Also, I should probably create my own .tpl instead of using the "welcome" one.
The welcome.tpl has other great stuff in it I intend to implement on other pages of the manager, such as the recent document browser.
But what I'd like to to do is hide the resource tree from them all together and in its place show these buttons for creating new documents, of which I gave an example earlier. I as admin would still like to see the document tree, but I'm able to hide the document tree with ACL. What I'd like is to get access to the whichever template that holds in it the "modx-leftbar" div and be able to add my own HTML to that template/file/wherever it is. I've been trying to find the right place to edit for ages, but to no avail and I'm getting pretty disappointed to myself for it; some help would be appreciated in pin pointing it's location.
This was a lengthy explanation for another reason also, as I'd like to know if I'm doing any grand mistakes that might bite me in the but later. I imagine upgrading might introduce some difficulties?

Hmn... It's about ACL and that stuff; the only bit I know how to do. I know how to hide elements from the user group, but I'd like to edit the manager template to add links for my editors to click. I want to add a box containing links above the resource tree, so that when I hide the resource tree with ACL, the link box still shows.
E: It's on the header.tpl... Hmn. Might not want to edit that. I am going to however.
E: hmnh. The whole sidebar gets a display: none; css rule. Bummer. Have to look into this some more.
