    Hi all,
with modx 0.9.5 I have following problem. I relaunched a web site from static pages to modx (thanks for applause grin ).
Now in search engines many old indexed links go in 404 errors. I set up an error page in modx but the Apache/1.3.31 sends back the standard 404 page. Therefore i put a htaccess into root with an error 404 call. It works but now there is another problem: in TinyMCE the first tab row breaks to a vertically sorted order and all graphical buttons in RTE gets the visual effect of links defined in my CSS. It’s independent wether I set the link to CSS in configuration or not. And I tried often to log out, delete cookies and so on ...
What the hell is this? Any ideas? Thx.

First, make sure you have told MODx to go to the correct error page (by ID) in the config. Second, test and make sure the error page is working by going to it directly.

If I were you, I would open your .htaccess file and use redirects for your old pages to their new pages. That way the user will forward to the new page seamlessly and search engines will update the URL on the next scan. This also usually helps a lot to prevent loosing your ranking for all those pages.

      inside your .htaccess file:

      Redirect /path/to/old/file.html http://www.domain.com/path/to/new/file.html

Just create another like like that for each file you want redirected.

You will need to keep the old directories and files on the server until the search engines update, they just wont be used. You can also erase out their content so they don’t take up space.

Done, and works. I have (without mod-rewrite) SEO friendly URLs as www.site.com/index.php?q=page-alias.

With a request like www.site.com/index.php?q=page-alias-doesnt-exist modx goes to the error page pre-defined in manager config.

With a request like www.site.com/whatelse I get the standard apache 404 error. With the errordocument call in htaccess it goes to my error page but scrambles the editor view.

I use redirects for some popular pages found in search engines with important keywords. But what for other search results?
        And why the
        ErrorDocument 404 /error/error404.php

        scrambles the editor view?
