Hmm.. I think i got it!
But each page is taking 20 seconds to load... any ideas?
ok this is a long time from the start of this thread but I just finished my first ModX website and was tyring to take it live from localhost. The link the OP posted just worked easily for me...but by and by I think the procedure is tedious compared to other CMS i have used - Joomla,Wordpress and would be quite a day for a non tech savvy person. But didnt they say modx is for developers? ok then but the simpler the better if modx has to really compete...IMO

Again, this is coming quite late but just for the benefit of modx newbies like myself, follow these steps to migrate to another server or from localhost to live server.
1. develop your modx website as you wish on source machine (could be localhost or another server).
2. Install the same version of modx used for development afresh on the target machine.
3. Move files in your dev assets folder (CSS, JS and images) into the assets folder on target machine
4. Dump database from dev machine (I simply use phpMyAdmin), drop db tables on target machine and import the dumped database tables from dev machine to the live database.
5. If you are just updating the site with new content (e.g. doing daily updates for your client during dev), start from step 3 then clear modx cache after step 4 - find 'clear cache' under site menu in manager.
Fire up your site on the browser. This should work if you have not made any changes to the modx core or manager files (dont know why u should do that anyway). If you have used any extra packages you need to upload its files into the the core folder on the target machine.
Like I said I am a modx newbie but this has worked for me several times already.
Happy migrating...

Or build your site, run the
Vapor script on it to export it, install a fresh MODx on your remote server, get the Vapor package from your local installation's core/packages folder and put it in the remote installation's core/packages folder, then install from Package Manager like any other package.
hmmm...will have a look at at the vapor script. sounds interesting. does it set up the database too?

Everything. It was originally developed to import sites into the MODx Cloud, but it works just as well importing to any hosting.
