ModX and SSL for the utter noob

Hi all,

I'm fairly comfortable with most aspects of ModX, but this is my first time ever dealing with SSL. I've had the host create all the necessary files on the server, but I'm completely lost as to what I need to do to make it all work on ModX. Specifically, I'm looking to encrypt one page (an order form), while the remaining pages remain unencrypted.

I'm aware of the SSL plugin, and I've read numerous threads on this site on SSL-related issues, but when I try to access the https version of my page I get the following message in FF:
SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.

(Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

I haven't modified anything in .htaccess (don't know if I should), nor anything else really. I need someone to guide me through step-by-step if at all possible.

It sounds like there was an issue with the SSL installation. Can you try visiting a static file using the SSL domain name?

If you are forcing www. or non www. in your htaccess there may be issues, so disable that for the testing portion.

Thanks for the tip. I created a test.html file and uploaded it to the root docs folder and then tried to access it via https - no luck. I can access it just fine via http. Does this indicate to you that there's something wrong with the SSL installation?

That sounds like an SSL installation problem, so you might want to ask your host to take a look at things. If you want I can do a SSL health check to confirm the installation is the problem. I just need the domain name where the SSL is in use.
