What are your favorite MODx API methods?

I'm working on a MODx book that puts WordPress and MODx side-by-side for comparison, and one of the things I want to do is to have a table listing various API methods so the reader can look up API methods in one system and quickly reference the corresponding API methods in the other system.

What MODx methods do you guys use the most? I'd love to have a list of somewhere around 20 to 40 popular API methods to "translate". If you know WordPress methods that you use a lot, feel free to share that as well.
