More instability....

See my post in the general section of this forum about the save dialog loop and dead ui/whitescreens.... but now after throwing all my original play away, here we are at the end of the day and modx has gone nutty again and I've lost my interface.

Luckily I can still log in but once past login I don't get my resource tree to the left an the updated news in the windows to the right, I just get one big page of scrolling news items and no work interface.

I've looked all through the menu but nothing.... some options work, but others don't do anything... I can't log off, or explore packages, I can't hardly do a thing....

Could you please tell us more about your hosting environment and what you did prior to the issues? It looks to be a upgrade that had some issues, in which case you likely just need to rerun the installer.

Nope... after a random amount of successful use, the modx interface just goes nutty and stops working. It happened again to me after a day of intermittent working with modx, I just got a white screen in the manager interface and that was it. I left it alone and called Go Daddy tech support, and had them log into the manager from their end, same deal, white screen, nothing, flat line... so that at least takes my system, my browsers, and my caches off the table.

We proceeded to test and play around, seems on a White screen, a reload and a resend of the form data usually will cause the manager dashboard to come back up in some form. But he and I kept seeing things differently. I'd get the modx news box as the only thing in my manager windows, full screen, nothing else... he'd get the resource tree on the left, but clicking it had no effect....

ONLY by uploading the setup directory and doing an upgrade install fixes the problem... Immediately we were both able to log into the manager and receive the normal modx manager dashboard.

But c'mon... as software (and as a traditionalist, one hates to actually call it that) goes... uhm... not ready for prime time.....

I would suggest turning off the news feeds. If they time out, you won't get the rest of the Dashboard page.

Go to System -> System Settings and put "feed" (without the quotes) in the search box at the upper right.

Change the settings from yes to no.

Roger... good to know. I've done just that... we'll see if I get through the next day or so without losing the Dashboard interface and we might know something...

However, and please, don't take this in a way that I don't mean BobRay, because I'm a natural educator myself and love sharing the knowledge, and would never crack someone over the knees for venturing, brainstorming or contributing... but, public schools being what they are.... in any tech community there is always such a great proportion of non-thought out advice given, as if the giver can never be on the side of "not well thought out" but the receiver, by nature of needing to ask a question, ALWAYS is.... I turned off the news feed... I think, all things considered that's a reasonable course of action to at least see if we can assert anything given that change... however, I'm not an idiot myself... there is nothing to suggest this is a news feed timeout.... it's a good suggestion, and it's good troubleshooting to pare down things to be barest essentials, but as I've said, when I lose the Dashboard, I get a full page of News... and I apparently get all of it... at least there is no indication that I'm not.

However, new information here, WHEN I lose the interface and I click my login name up by the logout button, normally, as you know, this takes one to the profile edit screen. But when I get this interface hickie, the entire profile edit screen is squeezed into a locked frame about 1" wide along the left edge of my browser clientarea. I can see just the start of the edit boxes, I cannot see the prompts. There is no ability to resize the frame, the subtle little hide/show tab is not displayed.

Also, there is good news on the GoDaddy front, in addition to supporting in their application set Drupal, Joomla and Wordpress, they support this version, 2.1.3-pl of modx and they are being fantastically helpful in taking my complaints and demonstrating a desire, at least, to help and solve the problem. The techs that have helped me have done everything from run the setup to log into the manager to compare what they see and what I see.

What IS INCONTROVERTIBLE, is that WHENEVER my dashboard goes brain-dead, THEY and I see the SAME brain-dead symptoms. We may see the Manager and Dashboard DIFFERENTLY, but in EVERY CASE we have a non functioning interface. And when we run a setup update install over top, we are BOTH immediately presented with a working interface.

I've challenged Go Daddy to figure this out on their end between their systems and modx.
