I apologize in advance for jumping in out of nowhere on a question, but I just spent 30 mins on the phone with GoDaddy support and I'm hoping someone here, if not able to answer outright, can kick me quickly in the right direction.
Installed latest traditional release last night on GoDaddy AND Hostmonster. Can report installation went perfectly, although I did have to sweep from root down and reset file permissions as they don't get set right during install for some reason.
Working in the modx manager, learning my way thru some very basic stuff, just changing some system variables for pagetitle and such, and the content variable in the template and resource, etc.
I hit save.... the save window kept looping.... I let it alone for 3 or 4 minutes... I finally hit refresh on the page itself (browser) and the Manager is no longer working....
Now, I'm completely new to modx but, let me be clear, I've been developing software for 20 yrs.... there is no way I can sink 10's if not 100's of hours into learning and using something like modx if something as I just described can happen. Almost out of the box, I'm in a state where, as the USER of modx, I simply can't see how I have any chance at FIXING things... while I can simply reinstall. However, if I have to do this, I have to drop modx altogether. As my GoDaddy tech said, the CMS systems they recommend are the most popular for a reason... and modx isn't in that list. That said, there's something I really like about modx... but this problem is a biggie.
Any thoughts?

Just some updates,
* install was 2.1.3-pl
* did another sweep setting permissions to 755/644, no effect
* the index.php file in manager/ is binary identical to the original, no factor there
* when I hit the manager/ directory, OR the manager/index.php directly, in my browser (both IE and Firefox) the "source" is blank

Ok, here's some more...
I ripped out every stinking file from my modx root folder at Go Daddy....
I uploaded 2.1.3-pl fresh
I ran the install...
it installed with out one hitch... the db already existed so the install chokes on the prefix.... made an entirely new db.... deleted the old one.... all's ok....
at the end of the install, last button I push, screen turns white... but it did when I installed last night... it didn't take me automatically to login... so I didn't think much of it....
I edited my browser's url, moved from /setup.... over to /manager... NOTHING... white screen... NO Source being returned from web server!
WTF????
Just to check... the install program didn't remove the setup directory...
Now, YES.. I've rebooted my machine, wiped the caches, deleted the cookies... it's the same on IE, and Firefox... and the GoDaddy tech helping me this morning got nothing but a white page hitting the /manager directory as well....
I'm lost..... modx sure isn't ready for prime time!

Are you on a Windows or Unix server? Is PHP5 installed?
Are you using GoDaddy's free Linux hosting? I know people have had trouble with that in the past.

Unix/Linux... No on the free, I have deluxe hosting actually for a number of other things...
More on this.... I finally called Go Daddy again... I just don't see how this can in any way be at my end and everything was working perfectly, I was humming along this morning and hit that looping save window and it all just stopped working.
This time, the tech wanted to see the install so I let him try it again on his end, I removed everything, unpacked the source again, pristine source.... had to create yet another database and he was off...
installation went forward without a hitch, although the checkbox to remove the setup files was checked these do not get removed, I removed them manually, ran a couple of quick scripts to chmod all files and folders appropriately as some still don't get created with the right permissions and by this time the tech was reporting a login box....
Incredulous, I immediately tried and sure enough, log in box and I'm back up learning how to use this thing...
But I'm still scared.... all hell broke loose and I was unable to recover, a complete scrub and reinstall wasn't without its hickies, and I'm a genius! Seriously.... but seriously, why in the world would the system white-screen like that, no results from web server, nah da.....

The odds are that one or more files was corrupted or missed in the transfer, especially if you used FTP. It happens more often than you might think because MODX has an unbelievable number of files.
Either that, or you missed something when setting permissions earlier.
