Creating a private space for users

Hi,

I have to do the following for a site:

Create a per customer private space wharehouse, a place where customers will retrieve informations, some pdf and jpeg.

The access will be SSL and secured with login and password.

The person that will create the login, page and store the data will have no specific computer knowledge, the the process of login/page creation must be as automated as possible.
Ultimatly an email will be send to the new page owner (a bit like with login modx extra).

Is there anybody in the community that has already done this ?

i'm not sure to fully understand "the person that will create the login". Does that mean your users may allow some other users to log in there private space ?

Also, it seems that all this will be front-end related, am i right ?

Do you have constraint about data storage (or an idea where you'd like those data to be stored -- custom table, extended fields) ?

So your client will need to be able of creating a new user account, who in turn will receive an email with their login data. Furthermore the page that user has access to needs to gain access to certain files for download?

If I were to do something like this, I would create a custom component with a simple "New User" button that will take care of all the technical underlying things like user groups and sending the email. From there on you could add files to a user by clicking a certain button which, in a custom table, saves the user ID and the file path on the server.

The front-end would in that case be powered by a login form using the Login extra, and a page that is set to only be accessed by the user group all your clients are added to. It would have an uncached snippet that will fetch the downloads available to that user from the custom table and output that.


If you work with default sets of downloads (I don't know the context in which this would take place) you could add another layer of abstraction where you first create downloads, and you can then link those to a specific user.

The SSL part shouldn't be a problem once you get that running with normal MODX pages and your assets.

Let's explain more :

The site owner is a non tech person.
He will have to create a login for end users with some information like phone numbers, email, and so on.
At the time of creation he will load one page that is specific per end user.
This page he will fill with some information (text) and some pdf, and/or jpeg documents that the end user will be allowed to consult/download when logged in.
Upon completion of the creation process, an email will be send to the end user to tell him his account is created.

The site owner is the only one allowed to modify/add information.

IMO, the easiest for the site owner is getting someone to develop a component for you that automates all the techy stuff. The front-end viewing could be one resource with a snippet that looks up text and downloads for that user only. From a custom table that interacts with the component.

That's what I think.
