    Hi

I have just taken over the maintenance of a MODX site (never used modx before) and I am looking to refresh the look and feel of the homepage template. However when viewing the files via FTP I can see many index files but none of which seem to be the homepage? Where in the folder structure would the index/homepage file be located so I could make the neccessary changes such as adding in a jquery slider, new background image, and new re styled navigation list.

Because when I log into the modx admin panel (what the end user would use to add content) and browse to the homepage in the tree there is no content in the main body of the page?

    Many Thanks

Select the home page from the tree and find out which template it uses.

Then go to the Elements tab and view that same template. You'll either find the html you need to edit, or it could be included in the template with chunks.

It would be a good idea to read up a little on how MODX works before diving in to make changes:

FYI, the content is all in the MODX database, so you can't change it by editing any files. You have to find the appropriate content to modify in the Manager.

First, there is the template. This is an element, and contains the raw HTML code that is processed by the parser (initiated via the index.php file), which inserts the dynamic content as specified by the MODx tags in the HTML code, The main item usually inserted into a template is the content, which is supplied by the content of the resource being requested (a resource can have a "blank" template assigned, but that's another story).

The home page is a resource like any other resource, with a template assigned, and the only thing that makes it the home page is that its ID is specified as the site_start resource in your site's Configuration. So the first landing on a site will automatically feed the visitor the resource with the ID configured as the site_start value.

MODx pages are NOT files, they are a combination of resources and elements, each of which is stored in the database. The main content is, for example, is in the site_content table.
