    Alright,

    So i’ve been using ModX at work here for a few weeks and i wanted to install it to my own site.

    I’m using godaddy hosting service. i copied the install stuff into a sub domain directory and went through the process, everything is fine right up until i have to click on the "install now" button. the next screen loads with the template and then sits there for a bit while it processes... but then i get this on a blank white screen:

    ==========================================
    Setup will now attempt to setup the database:

    Creating connection to the database: OK!

    Selecting database `andrewmoch`: OK!

    Checking table prefix `modx_`: OK!

    Creating database tables:

    ==========================================

    I’m guessing it failed at making the tables because when i check the database there are no new tables.

    i’m using:

    hosting is on a windows machine
    MySQL 4.0( which on godaddy is run through the phpMyAdmin 2.7.0-pl2)
    Installing through firefox 2.0.0.3

    so i’m not really sure what else i can provide in order to help out... if anybody has any ideas i’m open to anything.

      Try using IE7, just to see what happens.

      Can you switch to Linux hosting? I think there are more people familiar with that platform (myself included). I’m sure the Microsoft solution works, but I’ve never used or had any desired to use it myself.

        well,

        I used IE. Same results, just took longer.

        The reason i’m on M$ server is because i have a bunch of ASP stuff running. I don’t think you can run asp on the Linux servers right? If you can i’ll gladly switch (on godaddy it’s as easy as just clicking a check box).

        I think there may be something screwy going on with my account’s database’s. The one i set up to run specifically with Modx won’t accept a connection during the "test connection" phase of the install, but my other database will. I called the support line today and they could connect to it. When i try my own connection strings i still cannot connect to it. So who knows? basically they told me that all permissions were set for my login account so i should have no problems, but the guy on the phone didn’t seem like he knew too much.

        Does anybody know of a good easy tool to use in order to test connections to a data source?

          I don’t think you can use ASP on Linux based hosting, but I could be wrong. Maybe there is an open-source clone out there - infact that sounds vaguely familiar.

          Perhaps you can try following this simple PHP/MySQL tutorial to test connecting to and using the database from PHP? If it fails then you can give the info to GoDaddy. If it works you can post back here.

              It kind of sounds as if that database user doesn’t have permission to create new tables to me.
