FC Rules Do Not Work Correctly...

Hello,

I have a TV that is linked to a template but I only want the TV to be shown under a certain parent or ID. I have set up a FC rule for the specific template with the constraint field set to parent and the value to 8, 8 being the parent document that I want all docs under to show this TV.

All docs using that template still can access the TV, so I set another rule to hide the TV by default with the hope it hides the TV from all then the next rule will kick in to show the TV per parent as set... well it doesn't work. I have tried several combos and none are working. I can hide the TV from all fine but not from specific docs that use the same template. Is this a known issue with FC?

Is there some way to get this working without the need to duplicate templates?

I could be wrong, but I don't think there's a way to do it at this point. I don't think conflicting FC rules will work -- once any applicable rule hides the TV, it won't be shown.

What's needed is a rule with a negative constraint that hides the TV if the parent is *not* 8 -- e.g., a rule that hides the TV with a constraint field of 'parent' and a constraint of !8.

I put in a feature request for this a while back and I suspect that we'll have it eventually, but I don't think it exists at this point.

Maybe someone else knows a way to do it with the current version.

thanks for the reply but that doesn't work either.

I'm using 2.1.3, I created a rule that is applied to a template. The rule hides a specific TV, the constraint field is parent and the constraint is set to !8 but that hides the TV from all resources.

Perhaps one of the core devs can tell us if how this works if at all?

rossco, I didn't mean that !8 would work. I meant that it may work in future versions of MODX.
