Currently my server is using PHP 4, but I'd like to make the switch to PHP 5.
I've used the backup tool within Evolution to create a backup SQL file of all the tables (including DROP TABLE statements).
Are there any actions or precautions I should take in the event that switching to PHP 5 screws up Evolution?

Just make sure you have the backup; and it would be a good idea to clear the cache first. The only problems might be an error involving using some deprecated PHP functions, such as ereg, in some of the snippets. If you're upgrading MySQL as well, there are some issues with snippets that create tables using
instead of
, as well as some issues involving not-null fields being fed null values in "strict" mode. If none of these issues come up, you shouldn't even notice the difference.
